My Wonky Quilting 🧵 aka what I've been up to -- posters, podcasts & patchwork!

Lately I've been reminded that creativity is an underrated but important tool we each have for living sustainably. Here's what I've been up to…

Ā

1. Powerful Posters Workshop

I had the pleasure of leading a workshop about powerful poster-making with the students at Sarah Lawrence College. Everyone created wildly different posters, many of them using collage, and some in combination with lettering. We pooled our resources for supplies, and devoted a few hours to creating impactful art. Thanks to the organizers and students who made it happen! I will definitely be holding onto the experience of your energy, creativity, and commitment to building a world in which everyone is healthy and safe, for a long time to come.

2. Creative Camp Guest

I'm stoked to have been the most recent guest on ā€œOpen Studio: Earth Edition" of the Creative Camp podcast, put out by Natalie Brite of DoGoodBiz. It's so uplifting to chat with other people who care about the planet, and this conversation left me genuinely energized!

We talk about the roles creativity and joy play in making green living more doable and fun. Come get inspired with us!

3. Upcycled Quilting is So Great, Y'all

I've been recording more Susty Superhero chats (coming soon, stay tuned!), and I got so inspired that I dove into scrap quilting! It took me a while to get started, but I'm proud that I'm carving out time for this kind of tactile play. I think right now it's especially crucial to stay connected to the things we love about the world, activities that fill up our cups and spread joy and possibility and encouragement to other people, so we all have the energy and drive to keep trying to make the world a better place. Plus, upcycled crafting is a mode of sustainability: creating something reusable out of pieces that already exist and normally would have gone into a landfill. Win win.

I'm really enjoying the learning curve, improvising with mistakes, embroidering over holes -- and this activity is extra meaningful because I'm upcycling scraps from my childhood, a time when I had boundless energy, ideas, and projects going. Here's my first placemat – she's pretty wonky but I kinda love her because of it:
