HI! I’M JULIA BARRY, AN ARTIST & ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVIST WORKING TOWARD A HEALTHIER PLANET.
I’m on a mission to make it easier for everyday people to eat healthy, feel happy, and save the planet at the same time! Through UpRoot Design Studio, I use illustration, green product design, and community-building techniques to inspire joyful, sustainable habits.
As a maker and program administrator, I’m active in the arts, non-profit & tech worlds in my NYC homebase and across the US. I’ve been thrilled to take part in programs like the New Dramatists Studio and Art-a-Hack which emphasize community, collaboration and creative vibrance; and participate in artist residencies including Chalk Hill and VCCA.
In 2019, I created the empathy-building community arts project, “Habitat: Home,” with the help of funding from the NY Women Composers Foundation, Puffin West Foundation, The Pollination Project and the Brooklyn Arts Council. I have been an advisor for The Pollination Project and board member of the climate podcast, Threshold, and am an accepted member of Illustrators for Hire.
I spend a lot of time making art and doing all the necessary admin in my Brooklyn studio, where I live with many plants, a tiny rescue dog, and my husband.
